If your doctor has asked for a thyroid test, a Vitamin D level or a ferritin test, all of those are run on the same class of instrument: a Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (CLIA) analyzer. At St. Luke's Medical Laboratory in Ja-Ela, our CLIA Immunoassay analyzer measures these hormones and proteins directly on site — so you get accurate, hospital-grade results without travelling into Colombo.

What a CLIA immunoassay analyzer actually does

Chemiluminescence immunoassay is a highly sensitive method for measuring substances that circulate in your blood at very low concentrations — hormones, vitamins and proteins. The test uses antibodies that bind to the target molecule and emit a measurable flash of light; the brighter the signal, the higher the level. This is the same technology used by large hospital laboratories, which is why it is the standard for tests where small differences in the result change the diagnosis (for example, thyroid function).

Which tests our CLIA analyzer powers

These are the immunoassay tests currently on our menu. Test names and current LKR prices are the ones published on our price list — this article does not set prices.

TestWhat it checksPrice (LKR)
TSHThyroid function (first-line)1,800
Free T4 (FT4)Thyroid function1,900
Free T3 (FT3)Thyroid function1,900

Every one of these prices is published in Sri Lankan Rupees on our website. Most of the national chains do not publish immunoassay prices at all — you only find out at the counter. We think you should know before you walk in.

Why this matters if you live near Ja-Ela

Thyroid and vitamin problems are common and easy to miss — tiredness, weight change, hair loss, low mood and irregular cycles are all things people put up with for months. A single CLIA blood test can settle the question.

Because we run the analyzer in-house, patients from Ja-Ela, Kandana, Welisara (Walisara), Ragama, Wattala, Batagama and Thudella can get these tests done locally instead of queuing at a large Colombo or Wattala hospital lab. If you're on the Negombo Road corridor — including near Hemas Wattala — we are a short trip up Old Negombo Road.

Prefer not to come in? Our home blood collection service can draw the sample at your home and bring it to the lab.

How accurate are your immunoassay results? Chemiluminescence immunoassay is the same method used by major hospital laboratories and is the reference standard for hormone and thyroid testing.
